Booster Seat Harness Instructions

Booster Seat HarnessThe booster seat harness is used in order to give a child more protection than a simple seatbelt while he or she is riding in the car.  When using a booster seat harness, parents have the comfort of knowing that their child is secured properly and will be much safer if an accident takes place.  The booster seat harness secures a child the proper way so that he or she can not wiggle around or move forward in their seat.  While all of this may be true, the booster seat harness will only work if it is used properly.  This article will briefly explain how to use this harness correctly.

A booster seat harness should be very snug on the child that it is intended to protect.  Many guides will tell parents and caregivers to see if they can place two fingers under the booster seat harness at the collar bone level.  However, individuals that have large fingers may actually be giving the child too much room and it may not be snug enough.  Therefore, it is highly recommended that the booster seat harness be grabbed at shoulder level and the parents or caregivers should try to pinch it together.  There should not be a vertical fold in the booster seat harness.  If there is, the booster seat harness is to loose.

The booster seat harness should be at shoulder length.  This is very important because if the booster seat harness is to low and a crash is experienced, the child’s head may go to far forward and result in injury.  Reading the manual that came with the seat will explain the proper way to use the booster seat harness for that specific seat.  Individuals need to realize that the booster seat harness should use the top slots when the seat is forward facing.  This is the safest way to use it.

The chest clip of a booster seat harness will need to be located at armpit level.  If it is any higher than this it may make it difficult for a child to breathe.  However, if it is to low then the shoulder straps may drop.  This will not help hold a child in properly in an accident occurs.

It seems like there is a lot to remember about the booster seat harness.  Parents should not become frustrated with this information but become very familiar with the proper way to secure their child.  If an accident takes place they will be glad that they did.
